We intend this website to be a portal to historical resources concerning the Vale, and a place to display our own and others' historical information about the Vale.  The columns below this heading are currently under construction; in time we intend to have these columns filled with links to pages, either written ourselves or on other websites, to provide a treasury of historical information about the Vale.

The Vale of Evesham in the English Civil Wars, Commonwealth and Protectorate (1642-1660)

Worcestershire held an important strategic position during the English Civil Wars, commanding the main route from the Royalist and Parliamentary capitals of Oxford and London into Wales and the munition centres of the West Midlands.  Evesham was a key communication centre on this vital route, the gateway to the county, controlling the bridging point over the Avon.  It was a place of frequent rendezvous for the Royalists, a coveted prize for the Parliamentarians and ultimately a scene of violent battle to seize control as part of the campaign to  reconquer the county.
